Flood assistance grants deadline extended
Logan City Council would like to inform eligible businesses affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie that they now have until 12 January 2018 to apply for grants jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments.
Small businesses, primary producers and not-for-profit groups in Beenleigh, Carbrook, Eagleby, Jimboomba, Loganholme, Loganlea, Meadowbrook, Slacks Creek and Waterford West that suffered damage caused by the ex-cyclone and associated rainfall and flooding from 28 March to 6 April 2017 can apply for Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) Category C Recovery Grants of up to $25,000.
“Around 55 businesses were inundated during late March and early April, and many more were disrupted by power outages and road closures,” City of Logan Mayor Luke Smith said.
“I urge all affected businesses to contact the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority to see if they are eligible, and if so, apply for Category C assistance.”
The grants can be used to assist with purchasing, hiring or leasing equipment for the clean-up and disposal of damaged goods, and for building repairs.
NDRRA Category C assistance can also cover expenses associated with resuming business activity, including replacing damaged stock, leasing temporary premises, cleaning, safety inspections and additional employee wages. However, it does not compensate for loss of income.
